Quick start
Pilot wire electric radiator
The pilot wire (fil pilote) only understands a few orders: Comfort, Eco, Frost protection, off. Versatile Thermostat turns it into precise regulation, alternating Comfort and Frost protection at the right pace thanks to the TPI algorithm.
Versatile Thermostat's strengths
Every pilot wire module
Nodon, Heatzy or relay + diode: custom commands send the right order (Comfort / Frost protection) and the “Invert command” option handles diode wiring.
TPI algorithm
On each cycle, Versatile Thermostat computes the heating time from the gap to the setpoint and the outdoor temperature: the room stays stable to a tenth of a degree.
Power shedding
Radiators are cut by priority when consumption approaches your subscribed power. Start-ups are staggered to smooth out current peaks.
Presence and motion
Heating automatically lowers when you're away and returns to Comfort as soon as motion is detected.
Open windows
The radiator switches off when a window opens, with or without a sensor.
Centralized control
A single selector puts the whole home in Eco, Frost protection or off.
Tutorial: a bedroom with a Nodon pilot wire module
Example: a bedroom heated by an electric radiator wired to a Nodon SIN-4-FP-21 module, with a Zigbee temperature sensor and a window opening sensor.
Wire the module
Wire the pilot wire module to the radiator and add it to Home Assistant. It exposes a select entity with the Comfort, Eco, Frost protection and off orders.
Create the thermostat
Add the Versatile Thermostat integration, choose “Thermostat over a switch”, name it “Bedroom” and select the temperature sensor and the outdoor sensor.
Add the radiator
In “Underlyings”, select the module's select entity. Turn-on command: select_option/option:comfort. Turn-off command: select_option/option:frost_protection.
Set the cycle
Choose a cycle of 5 to 10 minutes and a minimum activation delay of 30 seconds. Keep the default TPI coefficients or enable Auto-TPI.
Set the presets
Define the Eco, Comfort, Boost and Frost protection temperatures, for example 17, 19, 20 and 7 °C.
Window and power shedding
Link the window opening sensor. In the central configuration, declare the home's power sensor and the maximum power to enable power shedding.
On the radiator, set the internal setpoint above Versatile Thermostat's highest setpoint (24 °C for example): Versatile Thermostat does the regulating, so the radiator must not cut off before it does.
